Undercard Results

– In the co-feature, WBC super flyweight champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) destroyed the older, smaller and weaker Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 22 KOs) in the third round. ‘Bam’ Rodriguez dropped the 35-year-old Guevara twice in the third round. Referee Ricky Gonzalez halted the fight after the second knockdown. The time of the stoppage was at 2:40 of round three.

“I kind of knew it was going to happen that way. I really thought he was going to fight a lot more,” said Bam Rodriguez after his win over Guevara. “I feel good in this weight class. I have a couple of more fights and then move to the next. I want a unification fight. That would be bad a**. Take them all out,” said Bam Rodriguez when asked if he’d like to fight Roman Gonzalez next.

“He’s the future of boxing,” said promoter Eddie Hearn about Bam. “Right now, we need to see him unify the division. If we can’t unify, I think Chocolatito is the fight. The biggest fight right now for Roman Gonzalez is Jesse Rodriguez.”

– Former WBA Featherweight champion Raymond Ford (16-1-1, 8 KO) won his debut at 130, defeating Orlando Gonzalez (23-3, 13 KO) by a ten-round unanimous decision. Ford dropped Gonzalez with thunderous right hooks in rounds two and eight.  The judges’ scores were 99-89, 100-89, and 100-88.

Gonzalez got on his bike in the ninth and stayed on the move for the remainder of the fight, much to the frustration of the 25-year-old Ford. At the end of the fight, Ford ignored Gonzalez when he attempted to congratulate him. Ford was upset with Gonzalez during the ninth and tenth with all the movement that he was doing.

He motioned for him to stand still so he could finish the job, but Gonzalez wasn’t going to accommodate him. He’d been hurt too many times by Ford’s right hook, and his nose was bleeding, looking busted. If the shoe was on the other foot, Ford would have done the same thing because he wouldn’t have put himself in a position of getting knocked out.

Ford lost his WBA 126-lb title to Nick Ball by a 12-round split decision in his previous fight on June 1st. The Matchroom-promoted Ford looked a lot better tonight at a new weight class at 130, showing the power that was never there when he’d campaigned at 126.

– In a big upset, light heavyweight Manuel Gallegos (21-2-1, 18 KOs) knocked out Khalil Coe (9-1-1, 7 KOs) in the ninth round of a scheduled ten-round fight. The heavy-handed 28-year-old Coe looked good in the first two rounds, nailing Gallegos with huge shots to the head.

Gallegos took over the fight in round five, dropping Coe with a left to the body. Two rounds later, Gallegos knocked Coe down with a right to the breadbasket. In the eighth, Galledgeos dropped Coe for the third time with a right to the head.

At the end of the eighth, the referee asked Coe and his corner if he wanted to continue, and they answered in the affirmative. However, Coe looked beaten up and appeared to have nothing left. At the start of round nine, Gallegos cornered Coe and unloaded with a short salvo of punches, dropping him with a left hand. The referee then stepped in and waved it off seven seconds into the round.

“I’m starting to feel strong in this weight at 175 pounds. I think you saw the fruits of my labor tonight,” said Gallegos. “I’m prepared to take anyone. My promoters will tell me what is the ideal one for me. I like it. It’s my division.

– Middleweight contender Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (17-1, 12 KOs) bounced back from his previous loss to score a career-saving fifth-round knockout over Gian Garrido (11-2, 8 KOs). The fight was a tougher one than expected for the 28-year-old Ammo, as he looked timid when he started taking heavy shots from Garrido.

Williams appeared to be stunned by a right hand from Garrido in round two, and continued to take a lot of shots in rounds three and four. Although Williams was landing the heavier, judge-pleasing punches, he was getting hit back a lot by Garrido and was retreating from the pressure.

Going into round five, Ammo Williams’ trainer told him to not allow Garrido to back him up. He wanted him to go on the attack, which is what he did. When the round started, Williams went after Garrido, hurting him with a left hand and then nailing him with a barrage of punches that resulted in the referee stopping the fight. The time of the stoppage was at 1:04 of round five.

“I’m back. It was amazing. I am a champion,” said Austin Williams. “I’ve seen all you middleweights talking. Anyone at my weight can get it. Next year, I’m looking to get back on track. We’re getting world championships in 2025.”
